Jimmy_Jimmies has resigned as Minister for Foreign Affairs in a letter dated 18 April 2026, saying he no longer sees a basis to continue in the position.
In the letter, he stated that he will continue to discharge his duties until a suitable replacement is found.
"I do not see a reason to continue in my position when there are elements within the department actively working to consolidate power in ill-fated and minded soft coups," the minister wrote.
The resignation now places pressure on government leadership to identify and appoint a successor for the Department of Foreign Affairs in the coming days.
RTÉ News understands further statements from government figures are expected following circulation of the letter.
